Turn Yourself Into a Tree

Put on this headband with magical branches and twinkly-centered butterflies and flowers, and you can be a tree.

Odd, right? But fun. I rush-ordered this costume prop, technically a Woodland Flower Branch Headband, for a specific reason: I was hosting a discussion about the book The Vegetarian. It’s about a woman who wants to be a tree. I intended to dress the part.

The item is just about perfect. Although it flops and is a little uncomfortable, it’s ideal for a fairy-esque tree-like look. One butterfly fell off while I gently removed it from the box, but I still love it.

Sadly, mine arrived too late. Instead of waiting for me at my door by 8am, which I’d paid extra for, it arrived 12 hours later. In my next life, I’ll be a plan-ahead kind of person.

As for The Vegetarian, I’ll report this: It’s short, it’s fascinating, it is not a can’t-put-down read, but it is excellent for a book group discussion. Korean culture, patriarchy, self-determination, family relationships and, depending how you look at it, maybe some anorexia are all part of the conversation.

I’m posting this primarily to test out my email blasts, which have been toxic. Here’s to hoping my fab website designer/consultant has fixed the problem for good. And thanks to the ever-game MF for agreeing to model this whimsical headdress.

(As always, if you buy anything through my links I might in theory make a penny or two. That’s not why I post my favorite items; I do it to share things I enjoy.)
