Talk about the stupidest waste of time ever. I’m trying to choose a color for my bedrooms walls.
Four Benjamin Moore white paints
Ridiculous:
1. I chose white. I’m putting down wood floors to replace the animal-print carpet that came with the house, and am too stumped to figure out a color I’d actually enjoy.
2. I’m struggling to choose a white. No kidding. I asked Gemini and ChatGPT. Between them, I chose Swiss Coffee and White Dove. Both white. While at Ace Hardware’s Benjamin Moore wall, I chose two more whites. Then I painted samples of all four on my taupe wall. Two months later, after finally getting a painter in for a quote, I took his Alabaster recommendation and ended up with four additional sloppy white squares on my wall, this time Sherwin-Williams.
Eight whites, the bottom four from Sherwin-Williams
Know what they look like? White. Every time I step into the room, I glance over and think, “Oh, White Snow, that’s the one.” Next time, I’m all about Cotton.
Yes, I know I should paint new squares on other walls of the room to see how each looks from other perspectives. And that they’ll all look different when surrounded by yet more white and no taupe. And that the new floor color will affect the hue.
Who cares? It’s white, white and more white.
Two more painters are coming to give quotes. I will hire one, pick the winning white and, once it’s up, never notice it again.
My next job will be to find a place that wants these way-too-generous sample bottles of white paints. I’d hate to just throw them in the trash.
